Will the Next-Gen iPhone 5 be Made of Liquid Metal, à la T-1000 from Terminator 2?
Remember T-1000 Skynet robot which was made from Liquid Metal in Terminator 2? Well it looks like Steve Jobs and Co are in full mood to build their next-gen hardware using Liquidmetal Technologies, a California based company from which they recently acquired exclusive rights to build products made of Liquid Metal alloy.
One of the best and the most distinguishing factors about Apple products is the way they produce their hardware, the build quality, the materials used are of top-notch quality which makes up for the high price-tag and the brand value. Be it the all unibody aluminum build MacBook Pros, iMacs to the all front and back glass built iPhone 4, all these products stand-out when compared to the competitors offering.
quidmetal alloys represent the first enabling materials technology since the creation of thermoplastics and possess characteristics that make them superior in many ways to other commercially-viable materials. First, they have an “amorphous” atomic structure, which is unprecedented for structural metals. Second, they include a multi-component chemical composition, which can be optimized for various properties and processes. Finally, they lend themselves to process technology similar to that possessed by plastics.
Now that Apple has exclusive rights to build products made of Liquid Metal, I don’t think they will be interested in building any robot for the next Terminator movie, but rather they will most likely be using it in the next-gen iMacs, iPads and iPhones to once again stay one step clear ahead in the game.

I for one cant wait to see what Apple engineers can come up with this, the fact that Liquid Metal can be transformed into any shape and angle gives them even more choice to come with a truly next-gen innovative design. Let us know your thoughts on this in the comments section below.
Apple Granted Design Patents for “Slide to Unlock” and “Keyboard Letter Pop”
If you haven’t been living under a rock or something, you will probably know that it was Apple who first came up with this new innovative way of unlocking phone on a touch-screen with iPhone. The now “Slide to Unlock” screen that you probably see the most on your phone was one of the most “ooh aah” thing of 2007. Same goes for iPhone’s virtual keyboard which had this “letter pop-out” effect which no other phone at that time had.
Since its establishment in 1975, Apple has been applying for, and won numerous patents. This is important because technology moves at a record-breaking pace and there is big need for any major company like Apple to protect its intellectual property rights from being copied, so that it can keep selling its products for the unique features it posses.
It was three years ago when Apple first applied for these patents. And today, Apple has been granted two patents by the United States Patent and Trademark Office titled "Animated graphical user interface for a display screen or portion thereof ". These patent awards, if anything are normally considered technical victories in this fast-paced tech. world.
So what this means now is that if any company tries to copy the exact design, or significantly similar to the one described in the patents, they will have to either license the design from Apple, by obviously paying handsome fees, or face the legal action by Apple’s legal department.
Evo demonstracije tog metala:
Valjda neće napraviti cijeli iPhone od toga- padne ti na pod i odleti 20 metara dalje, isprazni se dok ga uloviš :notooth:
Yes! I have got iMovie, which is an iPhone 4 exclusive app running almost perfectly on my iPhone 3GS. I did this video just to show that iPhone 3GS is fast, and capable enough to run iMovie. It is just that Apple wants us all to purchase the new iPhone 4 by saying that iPhone 3GS’ hardware is not good enough for this stuff.
Thanks to David Romhan Torres who first posted about this on Redmond Pie’s Facebook page here.
Changing the string for front facing camera to false will make the app run on any jailbroken iPhone and iPod touch as long as it is running iOS 4. Now according to the source above, you can also run it on non-iOS 4 devices i.e. devices running the old 3.1.3 or 3.1.2 firmware by changing the minimum system version string. I tried this step to run iMovie on my iPad but with no success. If any of you manage to get this thing run on any non-iOS 4 device, then please do let me know in the comments section below.= Citat =:
David Romhan Torres I just make iMovie for iphone 4 run on an iphone 3GS, it’s very simple just download it from iTunes, modify info.plist file and change the Minimum system version to 3.0.0 and front-facing-camera to false
And so without any further delay, here is the video demonstration of iMovie running on iPhone 3GS.

A evo jos nesto u vezi nove funkcije FB-a, Places:
Facebook Launches Location Service Called “Places”
At the Facebook HQ in Palo Alto, CA, Facebook CEO and Founder Mark Zuckerberg, along with other developers, engineers and partners at Facebook announced a new location based product called Facebook Places. This is essentially a check-in service like Foursquare and Gowalla that allows you to check-in to places that you have been to share it with all your Facebook friends and family. You will be able to see which of your friends are currently at the same venue and which of them have been there. There is also going to be an option which will allow you to tag your friends into places you check-in. Of course you can change all that in your privacy settings and by default only those who are friends with you on Facebook will be able to see your check-ins. Facebook is also going to keep a complete history of check-ins that you have made at a dedicated page on web.
Existing location based service players like Foursquare, Gowalla and Yelp have all been announced as partners. What this means is that you will still be able to use these services, but they will now integrate with Facebook Places, allowing you to publish your data to your Facebook wall.
Starting from Tomorrow, Facebook will be rolling out this service worldwide on the web. iPhone users have been given the first priority for the integration of Facebook Places, and so a new update to the existing Facebook for iPhone app will be released later tonight which will have seamless integration with this new feature. Others will have to use it via the touch.facebook.com mobile site.
This is going to be big, given the huge 500 million users which Facebook possesses. We, here at Redmond Pie are certainly excited about it! Let us know your thoughts on this new Facebook service in the comments section below.

Facebook for iPhone version 3.2 was rolled out last night which brought support for the newly launched “Places” feature, support for background uploading of pictures and videos in iOS 4, along with other visual enhancements such as “Pull-to-Refresh” to iPhone. However for many users including myself, this new version was mostly broken, throwing “Unable to Load this Page” error on most pages. Oh and if you tried removing and reinstalling the app, it simply refuses to login.
So as it turned out, the problem was occurring for jailbroken iPhone users who had BiteSMS app installed from Cydia. The new Facebook for iPhone 3.2 for whatever reasons is not compatible with the current version of BiteSMS. So if you have this app installed, uninstalling it from Cydia will fix the problem, at least it did for me. or you can alternatively try:
= Citat =:
For those having issues using FB after the upgrade, do the following conditions apply?
*Jailbroken
*Have BiteSMS installed
*Have SBSettings installed
I opened SBSettings, More, Mobile Substrate Addons. I then disabled BiteSMSsb, resprung, and now FB works fine. Not sure what that addon does, but so far BiteSMS works fine, as does FB.
White iPhone 4 Unboxed, Hands-on Video!
Here is what appears to be a leaked late production unit of a white iPhone 4 which is officially scheduled to launch “later this year”. 9to5Mac site which got the scoop on it believes that this might be one of those units which have been “scrapped by Apple at the last minute after defects in the white color clarity were found”. Unboxing and hands-on video after the break.
White iPhone 4 has been challenging for Apple to manufacture. It has already been delayed twice and there is no exact date on when it will be available. Hopefully, majority of the issues related to “color” and “light leak” are resolved by now so that we can get our hands on it sooner rather than later
Software Update to Fix iPhone 3G Performance Issues is Coming Soon, Confirms Steve Jobs
Apple CEO Steve Jobs has confirmed that a new software update for iOS 4.x will be rolled out soon to fix performance woes on iPhone 3G, running iOS 4.x. He confirmed this in a reply to an email, sent to him by a user who expressed his frustration over the performance of his iPhone 3G on iOS 4, calling it ‘”dog slow”.
Steve Jobs replied:= Citat =:
I’ve waited patiently through 4.0.1 and 4.0.2, looking for a fix that will make my phone work again. I’ve read the forums that advise me to jailbreak my phone or use some other method so I can downgrade back to a version of iPhone 3, however I’m not prepared to use a method that is not supported by Apple.
While he didn’t give any specific version number or release date for the upcoming software update, it is likely that the software update he is referring to in the email is iOS 4.1 which will be released next month at Apple’s Media event, where the next-gen iPod touch, and rumored iTV (Apple TV) announcements will take center-stage= Citat =:
Software update coming soon.

Izgleda da je odzvonilo JB-anju :/
Jailbreaking may have gone completely legal in the United States but that doesn’t stop Steve Jobs and Co. in their fight against unofficial / unauthorized use of iOS based devices. Apple today has applied for a new patent which will allow the Cupertino based company to remotely disable any iOS based device (iPhone, iPad and iPod touch) against any unauthorized usage which is not supported by the company, such as “jailbreaking” and “unlocking”.
Ars Technica writes:
Even though the patent description doesn’t mention jailbreaking specifically (probably because it is legal now?), but as Slashdot notes, jailbreakers might fall into “hacking attempts” clause as mentioned in the patent description. What do you think?= Citat =:
The patent, titled "Systems and Methods for Identifying Unauthorized Users of an Electronic Device," describes several ways a device could sense who is using an iPhone or iPad. Among the methods considered are voice print analysis, photo analysis, heartbeat analysis (!), hacking attempts, or even "noting particular activities that can indicate suspicious behavior."
The device could automatically snap pictures of the unauthorized user and record the GPS coordinates of the device, as well as log keystrokes, phone calls, or other activity.
Once an unauthorized user is detected, the device can then automatically disable certain features or send notifications to Twitter or other services.
Did you ever felt the need to close all the apps in one go which are running in background on any of your iDevice running iOS 4.x? While multitasking in iOS 4 and above is useful, it may slow down things a bit if too many apps are backgrounded, specially on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G (Jailbroken with Multitasking enabled) which have half the RAM of iPhone 4. So instead of killing all the apps and processes manually in multitasking tray (aka Task Switcher) to free up the RAM, you can close them all in one tap with “Remove Background” toggle for SBSettings.
This toggle for SBSettings is available on Cydia for free. You will need to have SBSettings already installed from Cydia before you can install this toggle on your jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch. Both SBSettings and Remove Background for SBSettings is available under BigBoss repository.
Animated Live HD Wallpapers on iPhone 4, Running iOS 4.x (video)
One of the things which iPhones and iPod touches are still missing over Android devices is the animated or live wallpapers option which were first introduced with Android 2.1 on Nexus One back in January of this year. But thanks to this new jailbreak app called vWallpaper, you can now have animated wallpapers on any iPhone and iPod touch running iOS 4.x / iOS 3.x. This in my opinion is the single best reason (behind unlock of course) to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod touch now if you haven’t already. Some of these HD animated wallpapers just shine like anything on the gorgeous Retina Display of iPhone 4
The instructions on installing vWallpaper on your iPhone or iPod touch are as follows. You will need to have a jailbroken iPhone to install it. Follow our step by step guide posted here to jailbreak your iPhone or iPod touch with JailbreakMe if you haven’t already. This will not work on iPad.
Step 1: Start “Cydia” on your iPhone/iPod touch.
Step 2: Touch on “Manage” tab on the bottom.
Step 3: Now touch on “Sources” as seen in the screenshot below:
Step 4: Touch on “Edit”, and then on “Add”. You should now be prompted to enter a url source as seen in the screenshot below. Type http://i.danstaface.net/deb and tap on“Add Source”.
Cydia will now automatically update your sources by following a series of automated steps.
Step 5: After installation is completed. Search for “vWallpaper” (if you are on iOS 4.x) or “vWallpaper for OS3” (if you are on iOS 3.x) in Cydia and install it.
That’s about it! Now simply run the vWallpaper app to set your favorite Windows DreamScene, Live Wallpaper -esque animated background. One of the great things about this app is that there is this little store kind of thing built right into the app from where you can download new animated wallpapers.
Of all the little testing I have done so far, these animated videos as wallpaper haven’t slowed down my iPhone 4 even a bit. You can also see the smoothness in the video embedded below. But it may slow down iPhone 3GS, 3G or anything below it as they have half the RAM of iPhone 4. It is also too early for me to comment on how will it impact the battery life. I will certainly have an update on it once I am done with one full day of testing. For now, check out the video to see it in action on iPhone 4 !
Could Angry Birds Be Getting The Big Screen Treatment?
We all know and love Rovio‘s brilliantly addictive iPhone game, Angry Birds. I mean, it’s up there with Doodle Jump and Plants vs. Zombies – the App Store greats that have sold millions of copies. However, unlike the other two, Angry Birds might just be getting the “big screen” treatment.
No, I don’t mean 9.7 inches of screen – that’s already been done. And, besides, we’re talking bigger.
According to a recent report by TUAW, Rovio is apparently thinking about marketing Angry Birds – with one possibility being a movie or two.
We’ve seen this before on the XBOX 360 platform, with the popular Viva Pinata title (remember the free TV show and, more importantly, its theme tune?). This only served to boost interest in the game itself – as you’d expect.
I’m not sure whether Angry Birds has the potential to grow into a movie with a half-decent storyline; you’d need a very creative writer on board, as the inspiration well would be pretty dry to begin with. However, if Rovio manages to pull it off, an Angry Birds film will only serve to promote the popular game even further.
In the meantime, take a look at Angry Birds’ commercial-come-trailer (below), which could give you an idea of how a film version of the game might pan out.
While it is obvious the App Store is a resounding success, it is interesting to see how it stacks up against other mobile app markets. Mobile Entertainment compiled a list of facts about the App Store and competing mobile app markets. While some may not immediately consider mobile apps to be as important as PC apps, the average computer user does not download and install 60 apps a year.
The iPhone was not the first phone to utilize mobile apps, but it was the first to garner huge success from mobile apps. Because of this, and the newness of Android, it is no surprise that Apple is well ahead of its competition. With 5 billion downloads and 225,000 apps available in the App Store, Apple is clearly dominating.

MultiFlow Brings Exposé-Like Multitasking To iOS 4 & iPad
As iOS 4 users on the iPhone 4 and 3GS can tell you, multitasking capabilities have greatly improved the entire iPhone experience. In case you’re not a fan of the current implementation however or are on a 3G, you’ll be glad to know that MultiFl0w, the exposé-like task manager for jailbroken iDevice owners is now available for iOS 4.
It was first created for 3.1.2, but after Apple released iOS4, there was still high demand for an alternative solution. Multifl0w was originally a cards-style interface similar to that seen on Palm’s WebOS, but Multifl0w 2.0 is an Exposé-like interface. It was entirely rewritten for speed, performance, reliability, and for iOS4, iPad, and iPhone 4.
And guess what? It looks better than what Apple made for iOS4! Available on Cydia for just $4.99, it works with Backgrounder and displays up to 9 apps at a time.
Here is a cool video of MultiFlow in all of its glory. Keep in mind, this shows the app running on an iPhone. However, the iPad version runs the same way:
Apple Holding Special Event Next Wednesday
It’s official folks. Apple will be holding a special event next Wednesday, September 1st in San Francisco. Assuming they stick to the tradition, we’re expecting some new iPods as well as, hopefully, a brand new iPod touch. It’s going to be an exciting event as the rumor is that the next iPod touch is packing FaceTime, which would be pretty huge, or will it be a new Apple TV? Also, we’re still waiting for iOS 4 on the iPad.
Ever fancied having two SIMs in your iPhone 4, which is of course either factory unlocked or hacked to run any carrier SIM you like? Well apparently, USBFever has come up with a solution which could be very useful if you like hopping around two networks
. The Dual SIM Card Adaptor allows you to hook two SIM cards with the help of a clip, which goes around the iPhone 4 and is held tightly together with a transparent back cover case which it ships with.
Of course you wont be able to use both the SIMs at a time. You can only switch between them without having to turn off or on your phone. All you ever have to do is to navigate to Home –> settings –> Phone -> SIM Applications, and select your desire SIM card.
= Citat =:
Features:
- One iPhone 3 with 2 SIM Cards (see note below)
- No need to cut your SIM CARD
- STK Menu (see installations below)
- Comes with Crystal case to protect the dual sim card and your iPhone
This accessory is compatible with:
- iPhone 4 (Firmware 4.0.0)
- iPhone 4 (Firmware 4.0.1)
- iPhone 4 (Firmware 4.0.2)
This Dual SIM Card for iPhone 4 with Back Cover is available for $28.99, and can be purchased via USBFever website.
New iPhone 4 Tomorrow, With Revised Antenna Design?
As many of you already know, Apple’s latest handset came with an unexpected surprise. No, not the proximity sensor problem – something more malignant: an “antenna issue.”
Dubbed “AntennaGate,” this iPhone 4 affliction took the tech-world by storm, appearing everywhere; on TV screens, magazines, ads and websites (even here, at AppAdvice) – indeed, everybody was talking about the iPhone’s antenna problem.
However, for some time now we haven’t heard much mention of AntennaGate. Apple handed out free bumpers, iPhone 4 owners around the world fitted them on their handsets, and the problem (if you even had it) went away, forever.
Today we’re hearing more mention of the iPhone’s antenna issue once again. And, why? Because the rumor around town is that Apple plans to release a new iPhone 4 handset tomorrow, one that will come complete with a “revised antenna design.”
As AppleInsider reports, Marco Quatorze, director of value added services at Telcel (Mexican iPhone carrier), has commented that a new and improved iPhone 4 handset will be available following September 30 – when Apple’s free case program ends.
According to Quatorze, this new handset will simply be tweaked to avoid the “death grip” from affecting the iPhone’s signal strength. Additionally, it will mean that Apple’s free case program (for which the company set aside $175 million) will no longer be needed.
Personally, I’m not sure exactly what to believe. It could well be that Quatorze’s comments are inaccurate, however Apple would still be left with the issue of a “faulty” handset and a case program scheduled to expire. Perhaps it’s more likely that the company will tweak the design of future iPhone 4 handsets to correct the problem, rather than throwing cash at its free case program.
Special Event: Apple Announces iOS 4.1 – Released Next Week!
Great news, iPhone owners! Apple has just released a major update to it’s iOS operating system. The long-awaited iOS 4.1, which brings the Game Center and Camera improvements to your iPhone, will be available to download next week!
iPhone 3G owners should be especially motivated to download this update as soon as possible. According to various reports, iOS 4.1 significantly improves the handset’s performance – something iOS 4 greatly diminished when it was released back in June.
And, what’s more – Apple has fixed the proximity sensor issue in iOS 4.1, along with a wide variety of other bugs. Additionally, Apple has introduced something called “high range photography.”
What’s “high range photography”?
Steve has stated on-stage that iOS 4.1 will include a feature called “high range photography”. Essentially, what this means, is when iPhone users take a photo using their iOS 4.1-powered phone (using the Camera app), three photos will be taken, and your handset will select the best one. Pretty cool, right?
Apple has just announced the next-gen iPod touch. As expected, this upgrade is a huge one for iPod touch fans ! It is powered by the all new Apple A4 chip, will feature iPhone 4 like Retina Display, a front-facing cam for FaceTime calls, a camera on the back for HD video recording, and Gyroscope.
iPod touch 4G
It will go on sale starting from next week. Pre-orders begins today !
Prices: 8GB model for $229, 32GB for $299, and 64GB for $399.

Taking HDR photos with Apple's iOS 4.1
HDR photos allow for superior pictures in daylight or other bright settings. Particularly when a shadow is cast on the subject or a part of the photo, it allows for a more accurate representation that doesn't allow the light or shadow sources to overpower the picture and result in a murky or discolored photo.
The new feature aims to prevent photos that are "blown out" with too much light. It accomplishes this by taking three photos in rapid succession: one with normal exposure, one underexposed, and another overexposed.
Tested on an iPhone 4, the HDR function is in fact a great option for users built right in to the native Camera application. If a picture is appropriately focused before it is snapped, the resulting photo is often superior to the regular picture.
http://photos.appleinsider.com/hdr-100902-1.jpg

http://photos.appleinsider.com/hdr-100902-3.jpg
http://photos.appleinsider.com/hdr-100902-4.jpg
The HDR feature does not work with pictures snapped with the forward facing camera on the iPhone 4. Selecting HDR also automatically turns off the flash function for the rear camera. Changing the flash back to auto or on will likewise disable HDR.
http://photos.appleinsider.com/hdr-100901-44.jpg
Zgodno izgleda- sada treba vidjeti kako će to izgledati u stvarnim situacijama i tamnijim uvjetima :)
Video: iPhone 3G Performance Running 4.0 & 4.1 Compared
As a former user of the iPhone 3G running iOS 4.0 (thank goodness I have the iPhone 4 now, it’s amazing), I can confirm that the iOS 4.0 software update was a huge catastrophe on the 3G. It was nothing short of an iPhone killer, as the slow performance made me almost give up on my iPhone 3G, until I took the time to downgrade it. Well, actually, I ditched it as soon as I could anyway.
Steve promises us that iOS 4.1 will be a different story, and will restore the iPhone 3G’s lost youth. Can he keep that promise? That’s exactly what the folks over at Lifehacker wanted to figure out today. They ran what they call a ” far from a scientific examination of both versions of iOS 4.” Basically, they shot an iPhone 3G performing some simple tasks running both the 4.0 and 4.1 versions of iOS and compiled them into a video for us to see the speed difference. As you will see, iOS 4.1 does improve the situation, but only slightly, and only for some applications. If you just can’t live without iOS 4.x then this will definitely be welcome. Otherwise, I would still recommend staying with 3.1.3 for the time being (or getting the iPhone 4). Honestly, you’d be doing yourself a favor.
Here is their performance showdown, check it out:

$5 Hack Turns Your iPhone Into A Microscope
Get a cheapo microscope off Amazon (currently $7.50, sometimes lower), superglue it to an iPhone case, preferably a spare you have floating around, or an ubercheap one. Bam, you can now take massively zoomed photos with your iPhone.
That’s a remarkably sweet and easy hack! If only I had known about this before the long weekend, it would have been a perfect toy to play around with.

Update on iOS 4.1 Jailbreak for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPod touch and iPad
Next week, Apple will roll-out the new iOS 4.1 firmware for iPhone 4, 3GS, 3G, iPad and iPod touch. This new firmware like iOS 4.0.2 will require another exploit for jailbreak as the loophole which was found in iOS 4.0.1 was quickly fixed by Apple in iOS 4.0.2. Comex will be on it once Apple releases the firmware to public early next week.
The question is, what kind of exploit is going to be used to jailbreak iOS 4.1? Is it going to be a another userland exploit like Spirit or JailbreakMe, or are they going to release bootrom exploit like Blackra1n which will last longer than the userland exploit before Apple patches it. The iPhone Dev-Team member MuscleNerd confirmed today that Comex is first going to give userland jailbreak a go via something he mentions as “trifecta”. If that fails to work, then they are going to release a new jailbreak based on bootrom exploit which could probably take longer than the userland jailbreak to arrive.
@TechXero it’ll be userland JB if @comex can pull trifecta. Else, wait for new HW cycle (also remember: hole!=exploit)
So there you go! There will be a jailbreak one way or the other! But there is of course no ETA on it yet. As a reminder, if your iOS device relies on a jailbreak or a carrier unlock, make sure you stay away from iOS 4.1 when it hits iTunes next week. Also make sure that you have PDF Patch installed from Cydia on iOS 4.0.1 to keep your jailbroken iPhone, iPad or iPod touch safe from PDF vulnerability in iOS 4.0.1 and below.
iPod touch review (2010)
At Apple's last event, Steve Jobs called the iPod touch the company's "most popular iPod," and it's easy to understand why. In just a few short years, the iPhone-with-no-phone has kept in lockstep with Cupertino's halo device, benefitting from the same kind of constant hardware and software updating that has helped turned the iPhone into an iconic gadget. The touch has been right alongside the iPhone's meteoric rise in popularity, becoming the go-to second-pocket slab for millions. There are good reasons, too. Apple boasts about gaming on the device -- claiming it beats out both Nintendo's and Sony's offerings in sales... combined. While we can't concede that the device is a dedicated game console, it most definitely games. And it's still an iPod, an internet device, and a thousand other things thanks to Apple's vastly populous App Store. Now the player has once again reaped the rewards of iPhone updates, boasting a new Retina Display, the A4 CPU, two cameras which allow for FaceTime calling and 720p video recording, and all the new features of the company's latest mobile operating system, iOS 4.1. But despite all of the plusses, we still have to ask: is the little do-everything box still worth the premium price tag? We took a deep dive on the latest model and have the verdict, so read on to find out.

Hardware
If you own the last version of the iPod touch, the design of the latest version shouldn't come as a major surprise. Instead of aping the iPhone's new glass-sandwich looks, the touch hews close to its roots with a super thin profile made up of one part glass screen and one part all-metal back. The device still bears the smudge inviting chrome rear panel, and continues the trend of shrinking the thickness as far down as possible. We thought the iPhone 4 was crazy thin, but the new touch looks like a toothpick by comparison. In our large hands, we might even argue that it's a little too small -- but it should be just right for the legion of teens and tweens that will clamor for this come holiday time.
As with earlier version, hard buttons come in the form of a single home key, a power / sleep button (finally moved to match the iPhone's placement at the top-right of the device, as opposed to the opposite side on previous versions), and two volume buttons on the left. Around back there's now a small camera lens in the upper corner of the device, while a single, VGA shooter peers out from behind the glass on the front of the player. A quick note: we had a little trouble consistently finding the sleep button when using the device -- it's a bit buried in the housing.
All told, we think it's break even in the looks department. The thinness is certainly welcome, but not a game changer. While we like the iPod touch design overall, there's nothing present in the new version that makes it significantly more lust-worthy than previous generations.
Internals
Inside the new iPod touch is Apple's A4 CPU, the same engine used to power the iPhone 4 and iPad (and that new Apple TV as well). We assume the device is sporting the same 512MB of RAM that the iPhone has, but we won't know for sure until someone like iFixit gets their hands on it. The 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen is called a Retina Display, which means it had equal resolution (960 x 640) and pixel density (326 ppi) as the iPhone 4, but it's not the same IPS panel that you're used to on the touch's big brother. What does that mean in real world terms? Well in our testing we could see noticeable difference in viewing angles, but only at pretty extreme positions. We also felt like the touch's display was slightly darker than the iPhone 4 screen. In general, we don't see this as a major detractor for the device, but there's no question that the iPhone 4 is sporting a qualitatively better display. It may be an "iPhone with no contract" in many regards, but not when it comes to the screen.
Aside from that you've got WiFi (802.11b/g/n to be exact), Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and Nike + support built in. No GPS here, and obviously no cell radios.
We're a little confused by Apple's reluctance to add a GPS chip to these devices. Since the App Store is litered with navigation software, and this could easily take the place of a TomTom or Garmin device, it seems like a short walk to paradise for the company. The touch checks a lot of boxes on the list, but true navigation is still blank, and we can't really understand why.
Cameras
Just like Apple wanted, much has been made about the touch's camera capability. It seems like the idea of a touch with cameras has been a long time coming (and based on what we've seen from case manufacturers since the last fall Apple event, we're actually about a year behind schedule). But the cameras on this device aren't quite the same pair that you get on the iPhone 4, and there should be no mistaking one for the other. The rear camera on the device is capable of 720p video, but that means that its maximum resolution is 1280 x 720 -- and when it's used for still photos, that resolution becomes 960 x 720 (that's a 720p at a 4:3 ratio). Obviously this is not the same lens or sensor as the iPhone 4, and when we asked Apple about it, they said it was more a consideration of size rather than cost. According to Greg Jozwiak, using something closer to the iPhone 4's sensor would have made the casing for the touch considerably larger. The camera is also fixed-focus rather than auto-focus, which means that tapping on the screen has no discernible result except for altering the white balance and exposure. Oh, and there's no flash to be found. Around front, the phone sports a VGA camera (similar to that of the iPhone), but again this is a fixed-focus lens.
vise slika slikanih kamerom
We really would have liked to see a higher quality shooter on the back of this device -- maybe the iPhone 4 has spoiled us, but even something like 3 megapixels wouldn't have felt out of place here. And we're pretty sure Apple could figure out a way to keep this thing thin and light in spite of it.
In our side by side shots with the iPhone 4, it's obvious that the touch's performance for still images is far below that of its big brother. For taking quick shots (which don't require tight focus), you'll be fine, but if you want to grab printer-ready pics, the touch definitely will not be a reasonable stand-in. However, when it comes to video, the 720p performance was actually quite surprising, and the device seemed to have no problem capturing smooth HD content. See the clip below (and check the raw file here) for a look at what kind of results it can produce.

Sound quality
As with the new nano, the touch did seem to sound a little better than previous versions, but it's not such an astounding difference that you should toss your last gen model in the garbage. Overall, playback seemed solid to us -- at least it didn't leave us wanting for quality. If you're planning on using the external speaker for listening, however, you might want to reconsider. We can't remember the last time we heard something so tinny. Of course, it's not surprising considering the size of this housing. Even though it's located in a similar spot as the iPhone 4's speaker, the volume and quality of audio it produces is not even in the same vicinity. Still, how often will you use this?
Software
If you've used an iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 4, there will be few (if any) surprises here. The touch performs exactly like any other iOS device, though admittedly you'll probably notice faster performance if you're upgrading from an earlier model of touch. Our review unit was loaded up with 4.1, which means we had access to a non-beta Game Center, as well as some of those proximity and performance fixes Apple told us would be coming -- though without seeing 4.0 on this device, it's hard to spot the differences.
Overall, performance was silky smooth on the touch -- games didn't lag, and getting around in the OS was as painless as it is on the iPhone 4. Multitasking worked flawlessly, and for those of you using the device heavily as a media player, it makes juggling playback functions along with the other "stuff" the touch does dead simple.
The new touch does come equipped with FaceTime, though now instead of using your phone number (and SMS) to connect, it asks for your email address as an identifier. Unfortunately, only other 4.1 devices can make a connection with the touch, so we were only able to make a handful of calls. In general, the application worked as effortlessly as it does on the iPhone, though we still had some freezes and breakups even on our strong WiFi connection. Ultimately, we still see this as a side dish and not the main course for these devices. With the iPhone 4, we complained that without 3G options for FaceTime calls, the feature remains limited in use, and that's now doubly true with the touch -- unless you're carting around a MiFi, you're stuck mostly indoors (and probably at home) for these calls. One thing to note about FaceTime on the touch -- on our device the volume seemed extremely low even when cranked up (in keeping with our experience for music playback), though the New York Times' David Pogue told us his device sounded loud and clear. "Like an iPhone," he said.
As we said, Game Center is installed on the device, but no games seem to take advantage of the feature just yet. We did field a few friend requests, but all we could do was look at our list of contacts. We'll likely take a longer look at this feature when it's accessible to all iOS 4 users, but for now the most notable thing about the app is that Game Center looks nothing like any Apple product you've ever seen. That font!
Wrap-up
Reading through this review, it should be clear that there isn't actually a whole lot to say about this device that hasn't already been said. The new touch isn't magical or revolutionary, or even unfamiliar. What it is, however, is a product without a peer; a media player that does far more than media playing. Besides the smaller screen real estate, the touch might be better compared to a tablet or netbook -- it has many of the same functions (more, in some cases). So you're not just dropping $229 (8GB), $299 (32GB), or $399 (64GB, also, ouch) on a music and video player -- you're buying into a mini-computer, a video camera, and a game system all with a massive ecosystem.
If you're already carrying around a smartphone with the above functions, maybe the iPod touch doesn't make sense, but for the legions of buyers out there who have yet to make the jump (or are stuck with an outdated handset), this device's appeal is hard to deny. Don't get us wrong, the touch isn't without faults -- the lack of GPS and a fairly low-quality still camera come to mind -- but there's nothing major here that gives us pause (and frankly, nothing else like it on the market). With the addition of HD video shooting, the new Retina Display, and a faster A4 processor, the touch has just gone from "nice to have" to nearly irresistible.
Se to meni cini il danas najavljuju iOS 4.1? :notooth: ali neznam bas... Jedva cekam taj Game center :retardlol:

Ping, HD video upload on YouTube and MobileMe for iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G and so on. If you want to keep your jailbreak and unlock, you better not update to this latest firmware now until and unless new jailbreak and unlock tools are available for download.
To update to iOS 4.1, all you need to do is to connect your iPhone or iPod touch with your computer via USB and start iTunes. You should now see a message as shown below. Simply click on “Download and Install” button to get on to the new firmware.
upravo updateam svoj 3g, vidjet cemo sto ce biti :)
The iPhone
hacker who previously found the 24kpwn exploit has successfully managed to find another bootrom based exploit which can jailbreak all iOS based devices on the latest iOS 4.1 firmware
. What this means is that the next jailbreak most probably is going to be based on bootrom exploit which unlike JailbreakMe will enable users to change boot and recovery mode logos among many other things.
Members of iPhone-Dev Team confirmed this on Twitter:
Also, the best thing about a low-level bootrom exploit is that Apple wont be able to patch it simply by releasing a new firmware update. Instead, it will require Apple to release a revised hardware version of iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad and the iPod touches with new bootroms in order to patch the bootrom exploit. This is the reason why iOS devices (like iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPhone 4, iPad, iPod touch 3G / 4G) which shipped after November 2009 are currently not jailbreakable via PwnageTool because it uses the 24kpwn bootrom exploit, already patched by Apple.= Citat =:
cpich3g: congrats to @pod2g for the latest exploit and also @p0sixninja who have been trying for months.

MuscleNerd: Crazy timing that @pod2g got latest exploit just as 4.1 went public (lots of work left…keep away from 4.1 for now!)

Confirmed ! iOS 4.1 Jailbreak Using Bootrom Exploit works on iPod touch 4G, iPhone 4 and Even iPad
Just a quick little heads-up, MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev-Team has confirmed that iOS 4.1 Bootrom exploit which was found by another iPhone hacker named pod2g works on the newly released 4th-gen iPod touch 4G, iPhone 4 and even iPad !
So there you have the confirmation! You can read more on the nature of the exploit in one of our earlier post here! We will of course let you know whenever new jailbreak and unlock tools for iOS 4.1 are available for download. Stay tuned! [via Twitter]
Find All iOS 4.1 Game Center Compatible Games in One Place
First announced back at WWDC10, and then again at Apple’s Music Event on September 1st, Game Center is now live on iTunes on both desktops and iOS devices!
The just released “Game Center” section on the iTunes App Store lists all game apps that take advantage of Game Center’s social gaming features such as the ability to invite your iOS 4.1-toting friends over for a little multiplayer game, score higher on the leaderboards and achieve achievements a la Xbox Live etc. Games can be sorted by “Featured”, “Popular” and “Release Date”…
We previously broke the news to our respected readers of a low-level bootrom exploit which would enable jailbreaking on iOS 4.1 and beyond with all versions of the iPod touch, iPhone and of course, iPad! This exploit was special in a way because Apple will not be able to patch the exploit with a software update, instead it will require Apple to release entirely revised hardware for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch and we all know that we are at least 6 months away from any hardware revisions.
Word around the Twittersphere is that the exploit named SHAtter is in the bootrom section, together with Pwnage 2.0 and 24kpwn which will make all existing devices, including the new iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4G pwned for life! It is obviously not publicly available yet, both the Chronic Dev Team and the iPhone Dev Team hackers are hard at work right now trying to get everything ready for full release. Unfortunately though, this jailbreak is reportedly said to be tethered i.e. you will be required to connect your iOS device to your computer on every reboot unlike how untethered userland jailbreak like JailbreakMe worked. iPhone hacker posixninja has confirmed that Geohot also had this exploit dubbed at that time as “pwned4life” before leaving the jailbreak scene.
We will of course let you know whenever these new jailbreak and unlock tools for iOS 4.1 are available for download. Stay tuned!
Napokon dobre vijesti :respect:
In an unexpected update to his last blog post titled “Meh”, Geohot has announced that he, for the time being at least has kind of abandoned the whole iPhone jailbreak and unlock scene. The reasons according to him are as follows.
While I respect this guy for all his contributions in the past, and I understand the reasons he has put in, there is still something about this whole story which makes me wonder if Apple has something to do with this. Maybe he was offered money?, or maybe he was threatened with criminal charges for continuing? well who knows. He showed off a untethered jailbreak for new iPhone and iPod= Citat =:
Sorry, this post was probably a bad idea. Next time I won’t say anything. I miss when this blog was actually about technical things(I’ve been reacting too much to the feedback, which led it to the place it’s in now). I didn’t fully realize most of the current scene don’t care unless they are getting something. Now I do. It’s late tonight, I’ll think about what to do about this in the morning.
The real reason behind no release isn’t technical. It’s just that it will never stop, after blackra1n, people demand unlock, after blacksn0w, people demand untethered. I miss the days when jailbreaking and unlocking were difficult, it attracted a much higher caliber crowd.
Also, to the haters, the picture is quite obviously fake :D
touches back in March, followed by a jailbreak for iPad and iOS 4 Beta in April, but none of them ever saw light of day makes no sense to me.
For those of you who don’t know, George Hotz (Geohot) is the guy who first unlocked the original iPhone in 2007, followed by first jailbreak for iPhone 3GS, and then later he was the first one to provide all-in-one jailbreak / unlock solution for iPhone 3.1.2 firmware through his famous tool, named blackra1n and blacksn0w.
So where does that leave us – the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (new bootrom) and iPod touch 3G users? Well, Comex’s Spirit like jailbreak tool is now the only hope. It will probably be released once Apple rolls out the new iOS 4.0.1 / 4.1 firmware update for iPhone 4, 3GS and 3G.
UPDATE 1: Geohot shuts down his iPhone public for public. His blog now requires private invite in order to read the content. This is what he said on Twitter:
No neki spominju da ce se "vratiti" uskoro sa limera1n-om.= Citat =:
i was just having fun but some people had to take this all way too seriously. it’s just a phone, and it isn’t much fun anymore.
my bio isn’t "iPhone hacker" it was just something i did occasionally when i was bored. seriously, i think many of you care way more than me
it was a cool ride, and i’ve learned a lot about a lot. perhaps one of these days i’ll do a more formal goodbye.
pojedini djelatnici u ''T-u'' ga vech imaju...

“iPA God” is a new application
which can be used to download paid apps from the App Store for free, directly onto your iOS device! According to the developer, you won’t have to jailbreak your iOS device to use iPA God. It works on an exploit found in iOS 4.1 / iOS 4.2 which allows you to create particular files on the filesystem. The developer took the opportunity and made an application out of it to make the entire process easier.
In the video embedded below, “iPA God” is shown in action running on a non-jailbroken iPad on iOS 4.2 (which is yet to be jailbroken!).
Obviously, it won’t ever be available in the App Store since it infringes copyrights of developers who painstakingly developed their application which they intended to sell for real money. Apple would never allow such an app in the store.
Since it won’t be allowed on the App Store and the developer says that jailbreak is not required, iPA God will be available “soon” as a direct download from the dev’s website (please done ask for the link as we strongly condemn piracy here). The developer has already said that it will cost somewhere under $20. Its funny how he’s charging money for his app. Maybe we can install a cracked version of iPA God, just to give him a taste of his own medicine!
Interesantno, no ne vidim svrhu u tome kada ce uskoro izaci ShaTTer koji ce zauvijek JB-at sve iDevices...
Ostajem zbunjen :wtf:
Btw, ista novo o jailbreaku? :D
The hackers
from Chronic Dev-Team have posted a rather miniscule update on their official blog on the GreenPois0n tool. GreenPois0n is the tool that was initially going to jailbreak iOS 3.1.3 (iPhone) and iOS 3.2 (iPad) and is now expected to jailbreak iOS 4.1 soon.
Chronic Dev-Team posted:
The update can’t really be called an “update” per-se. People (for example: our fans on FB) keep posting/emailing/tweeting asking for news on the jailbreak. It’s a simple post where they are simply telling everyone anxiously waiting for iOS 4.1 jailbreak to calm the heck down.= Citat =:
Many people in the comments are asking for a progress update. Any kind of update that we could actually give would be too technical for anyone to understand anyway, not to mention potentially reveal the exploit. Just know that things are going swimmingly and we are working as hard as we can.
Well there’s your answer: the jailbreak will come when it is complete. Chronic Dev Team isn’t giving proper progress details so that the exploit doesn’t get revealed (and then subsequently get patched by Apple). And besides, even if they post any progress updates for now, they will be far too technical for the average Joe to understand.
So yea be patient, and you’ll get your iOS 4.1 Jailbreak soon enough.
--------------------------------------
Ex-Chronic Dev Team member pod2g has just discovered another exploit (his fourth) that will pwn iPod touch 2G for life! It’s called the usb_control_msg(0xA1, 1) Exploit. The exploit is different from the SHAtter exploit which is expected to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on the newer iPhone 4 / iPod touch 4G and iPad. It is a buffer overflow that is triggered when a USB control message of the type 0xA1.. oh screw it, if you’re the techy type, you can just read the quote below to see how it works.
All I know is: it will pwn iPod touch 2G (MC Model) for here on till eternity, just like iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G (Non-MC Model).
From The iPhone Wiki:
Oh and the good news is that upcoming Sn0wbreeze 2.0 will be using this exploit to jailbreak iPod touch 2G (MC Models) for life!= Citat =:
A heap overflow exists in the iPod touch 2G (both old and new) bootrom’s DFU Mode when sending a USB control message of request type 0xA1, request 0×1.
On newer devices, the same USB message triggers a double free() when the image upload
is marked as finished, also rebooting the device (but that’s not exploitable because the double free() happens in a row). posixninja analyzed and explained this one.
= Citat =:
Looks like sb2 will have otb support for ipt2g MC models too! :) thx @pod2g
@jonnyboywashere this exploit is only in the ipt2g, thats why pod2g published it on the wiki.
Ok, pola sam pohvatao a pola nisam... Moze neko objasnjenje u 2-3 rijeci? :notooth:
OPREZ!
Na netu se pojavio fejk greenpois0n tool!
Detalji...
With the low-level SHAtter exploit scheduled to pwn all iOS devices for life soon, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that the iOS 4.1 jailbreak will go down in history as one of the most anticipated jailbreak tool releases ever. And it is now “seems” only a matter of days, not weeks, till GreenPois0n tool is released.
Days? How can we say that?
Well, today when @asendari asked SHAtter discoverer pod2g about how soon we should expect GreenPois0n, pod2g replied with a tweet that left us very excited:
However, hacker ClaytonBraasch then tweeted the following in reply to pod2g’s tweet:= Citat =:
@asendari I would say days.
Yes. Only a few days to go before we all get to jailbreak iPhone 4 / iPod touch 4G (and all previous iOS devices ever released).
= Citat =:
Just because @pod2g said he thinks the release is more likely to be in days than weeks does NOT guarantee it will be. Still, be optimistic.
Chronic Dev Team hacker p0sixninja posted a link to an all-new entry on The iPhone Wiki titled “SHAtter”. The article, without revealing too much, details how the SHAtter exploit works (with loads of technical jargon like fuzzer, AES engine, heap overflow, memory dumps and the like), who discovered it and who is actively working on it.
From The iPhone Wiki:

This is an unsigned code execution vulnerability that resides in DFU mode of the S5L8930 bootrom.
Uses of this exploit have already involved uploading a pwned iBSS/iBEC to provide access to the AES engine and to run custom ramdisks.

BREAKING: GreenPois0n iOS 4.1 Jailbreak is Confirmed to Release on Sunday, 10th October
This is just in. Members of Chronic Dev Team have confirmed that SHAtter based GreenPois0n jailbreak for A4 iOS based devices is finally dropping on 10th October 2010 at 10:10:10AM GMT. According to them, the said tool is done and is ready to release on the mentioned date and time.
For those of you who don’t know, GreenPois0n is based on a low-level bootrom exploit which will pwn all supported current iOS devices for life. Apple wont be able to patch it in the next firmware update. They will have to release a revised version for the mentioned iOS devices in order to patch the hole. GreenPois0n will also hacktivate iPhone 4, running iOS 4.1.= Citat =:
I guess sunday will be a funday after all :-P
10/10/10 10:10:10AM GMT
Things have progressed to the point where we don’t expect anymore roadblocks. ETA for greenpois0n is 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AM
Stay tuned to us as we will be bringing you complete how-to guides as soon as GreenPois0n is released to public on 10th of October! [via Twitter]
UPDATE 1: GreenPois0n is likely going to be an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.1.
UPDATE 2: MuscleNerd has confirmed that SHAtter exploit and GreenPois0n tool are only for the fourth-gen A4 devices like iPhone 4, iPod touch 4G, and iPad. It is not going to work on iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod touch 3G.
UPDATE 3: Apple TV 2G might also be supported.
UPDATE 4: MuscleNerd has now confirmed that GreenPois0n is going to be an untethered jailbreak for all fourth-gen iOS devices.= Citat =:
@chronicdevteam: greenpois0n supports: The iPad, the iPhone 4, and the iPod touch 4. Probably the AppleTV as well.
= Citat =:
Those reading between the lines: Yes SHAtter itself is tethered. @comex came up with a way to untether it on 4.1/3.2.2
SHAtter is yet another breed of exploit. Bootrom-based but requires userland "assistance" for untethered boots (@comex did this for 4.1)
Redsn0w v0.9.6b1 for Windows and for iPhone 3G / iPod Touch 2G is here to Jailbreak iOS 4.0 and 4.1. Last night Greenpois0n was announced to be released on 10th October, 2010 with a sad news that it won’t jailbreak iPhone 3GS, 3G and iPod Touch 3G. But hours later the team released Redsn0w v0.9.6b1 to put some smiles on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G users.

Geohot has made a dramatic return to iPhone jailbreak scene with a complete new bootrom exploit and tool to pwn all current iOS devices on iOS 4.1 for life! He has been out for months, but his return is surely going to please everyone, specially the 3rd-generation iPhone and iPod touch owners who were left out by SHAtter based GreenPois0n.
This news has been confirmed by members of Chronic Dev Team on Twitter, to whom Geohot has confirmed about his return with a complete new tool dubbed as Limera1n. Chronic Dev Team of course isn’t too pleased with it, they want Geohot to save this new bootrom exploit for the future next-gen iPad 2 and iPhone 5 devices.
Geohot seems to have timed it to perfection. 10/11/10 (October 11), the ETA of limera1n is exactly one year after blackra1n was released to public for iOS 3.1.2.= Citat =:
p0sixninja: yes, the news about geohot is true, the day after we release ETA he decides he wants a piece of the #pie
p0sixninja: and yes it is a different bootrom exploit, he wants us to use it in GP, but there’s no way we’ll make our ETA if we do
chronicdevteam: Note greenpois0n will be released as planned. if someone decides to burn a different perfectly good exploit, that is entirely on them.
chronicdevteam: It is actually him.
chronicdevteam: because his different exploit can be saved for new iphone / ipad / ipod, AND 3G S, you’d just have to wait a little longer
cdevwill: [7:45pm] geohot: eh, i’ll just steal your exploit [7:45pm] geohot: and beat you to the release Sounds like a nice guy.
So what do you guys think about this? Should Geohot save his exploit for the next-generation iOS devices? Or should he just go ahead and release Limera1n on 10/11/10, that is right after Chronic Dev Team has released GreenPois0n? Let us know what you think about this in the comments section below.= Citat =:
StealthBravo: The significance of 10/11/10 is that its the one year anniversary of blackra1n’s release. 10/11/10 is the targeted release of limera1n
EDIT 1:
MuscleNerd of iPhone Dev Team now chips in to confirm Geohot’s return, and the all-iOS 4.1 jailbreak tool Limera1n
= Citat =:
As dramatic as geohot’s last-minute all-device JB is, still a shame that two bootrom holes will be burned at once.
Decki, GeoHot je opet za*ebao ekipu ^^
Pustio je Limera1n na net prije onog famoznog GreenPois0n JB-a hhahah :D
