Unzip/Unrar VirtualDubMod and TMPGnc to a folder of your choice.
VirtualDubMod can be started by doubleclicking on ''VirtualDubMod.exe'.
TMPGEnc can be started by doubleclicking on 'tmpgenc.exe' in the folder where you unzipped.

Preparation: determining the frame-rate off the divx:

Start VirtualdubMod:
- menu File - Open video file - select the avi
(if you a warning regarding VBR Audio, select NO)
- menu File - File information
- Remember the fps-value on the top-line, we'll need this later on.
(usually 25.000 or 23.976 or 29.970)

First we are going to extract the audio from the divx-movie to prevent synchronization-problems between video/audio during encoding.

Start VirtualdubMod:
- menu File - Open video file - select de avi
(if you a warning regarding VBR Audio, select NO)
- menu Streams - Stream list
- click right on the audio-track -> 'Full processing mode'
- click right on the audio-track -> 'Compression' - select <No compression (PCM)>
- click right on the audio-track -> 'Conversion' - select 'Sampling rate' = '44100Hz'
- button Save WAV

the result is a large wav-file (about 10 MB/minute movie).
Close VirtualdubMod

If the subtitles are in a seperate file and you want them in your (S)VCD, then you can use the following procedure (we are going to use VirtualdubMod as a 'Frame-server' for TMPGenc):.
•Unzip the Virtualdub textSub-filter (file textsub.vdf) to a sub-folder 'plugins' of VirtualdubMod

•In the explorer, go to the folder of Virtualdub and doubleclick on the file 'AuxSetup.exe'.
In the window that appears, press the button 'Install handler' and next 'Exit'
In the 'aviproxy' subfolder of VirtualDub there is a file 'proxyon.reg'. Doubleclick on it.
Insert in the register? yes
Restart the pc

Start VirtualDubMod
Select menu 'File' - 'Open video file' and go to the AVI-file.
(if you a warning regarding VBR Audio, select NO)
Choose menu Streams - Stream List - select the audiotrack and press the button "Disable"
Choose menu 'Video' - 'Full processing mode'
Choose menu 'Video' - 'Filters...' - press 'Add...' and select 'TextSub 2.23' - OK
Press Open - select the subtitle-file (srt/sub/ssa)
Under Styles you can choose iont, size, color
(ie Arial Rounded MT Bold or Comic Sans MS; size 22; white)
Press the OK- button until you're back on the main screen
menu Options - Swap input/output panes
Move the slider at the bottom en check if the subtitles look OK

Menu 'File' - 'Start frameserver'
Click on the Start-button
Now we have to choose a name: use 'film.vdr.avi' (you may change film to something else, but keep the name simple and not too long, because TMPGEnc is known to have problems with difficult filenames)

Now VirtualdubMod is in frame-server mode. Just continue with the next section: 'Encoding' while leaving this Fameserver window open (do not closeit until the conversion to (s)vcd is completely finished !! )

Install and start TMPGEnc
- If the 'Project Wizard' should appear, click 'Cancel'.
- menu Option - Environmental setting... - tab 'VFAPI plug-in'
- click with the right mousebutton on "DirectShow Multimedia File Reader"
and choose "higher priority".
Do this several times until that Directshow-filter is on top off the list!
- CLose and restart TMPGEnc (close the wizard should it appear)

The encoding

Step 1
•Video Source : click on 'Browse…' and select the divx-file (AVI) or the VDR-file
•Audio Source : click on 'Browse…' and select the WAV-file
•Output file name : click on 'Browse…' and select a folder + name for the new MPG-file
- If you get a error-message stating a missing 'msvcr70.dll', then you have to download (300 kB) this file and place it:
in the folder 'c:\windows\system' (win9x) or 'c:\windows\system32' (Me-NT-2000-XP).

Umjesto SVCD-a ako zelis DVD uneses postavke za DVD ili ako imas TMPGEnc verziju sa wizardom pokrenes wizarda s opcije za PAL DVD ...
Step 2
Click on the button Load (low-right): select one of the .mcf files. These files can be found in the folder of TMPGEnc.
Keep this in mind (earlier in VirtualdubMod):
•fps = 25,000 -> choose VideoCd or SuperVideoCD (PAL)
•fps = 29,970 -> choose VideoCd or SuperVideoCD (NTSC)
•fps = 23,976 -> choose VideoCd or SuperVideoCD (NTSC Film)

For SVCD-movies: click on the button 'Setting' - tab 'Video' (low-right)
•Select at 'Rate control mode' : 'Constant Bitrate'
•Bitrate: this we have to calculate. The higher the bitrate, the better the quality, but the more space is required.

Click on the button 'Setting' - tab 'Advanced' (low-right)
'Video arrange Method' = 'Full screen (keep aspect ratio)'
Click OK

Only thing that remains is pressing the Start-button to start the encoding.
During the encoding, you can view the progress ('File' - 'Preview'). This won't affect the speed of the encoding.
If it doesn't look ok, then you can immediately stop the encoding, check settings and try again.
