It is rumored at some German sites about functions of Siemens SL55. For example, it is stated that the phone would have a screen, which would be capable to support up to 4096 colors. It’s possible, but all other substituted data show that Siemens SL55 is similar to S55 and in this case such presumption is doubtful. The other processor should be used to display more colors, otherwise, the picture would be downloaded too slowly. It means that an existing platform and software should be re-designed. So, if it was so necessary to do this job, engineers could have set a screen, which can show up to 65000, taking into account that the price of both screens was comparable and all rival products would have screens that support 65000 colours. So, we think that such presumptions are just rumours and nothing else.
The other lively discussion is devoted to the launching of Siemens S55i. As you can guess, it is said that soon we could see a successor of S55, which would have a better screen (4096) and more memory space (4 Mbá). According to these rumours, this phone would go on sale in June 2003. We think that launching of this model is also improbable. Increasing of memory would cause increasing of prime costs. Taking into account, that in the beginning of summer S55 would cost not much, S55i also should have a low price, what would be unprofitable to company. But let’s wait, may be the situation would change and all rumours become true.
Rumours about new smartphone from Siemens - K1, have already become a reality. It is expected that this device would be available in May and first demonstration would be on CEBIT. It would be the first smartphone from Siemens based on Symbian.
