The good
Design - gunmetal grey is cooler than silver but more eye catching than black
Ringtone loud speaker is the best on ANY mobile out there. Very very loud but little distortion!
Camera is a big improvement over previous RAZR and dispite problems listed below, most pics taken in good light are not at all bad when viewed on PC...comparable to GX30 or D500.
Main screen is made by Sharp and is very good, better than V3's Toshiba screen
External screen is an improvement too
External screen can be used as viewfinder for camera
Main screen viewfinder for camera is full screen now, with transparent controls. A big improvement on other Motorola 2g phones.
Option to save JAVA applications on memory card rather than just internal memory
Built in MP3 player is fast to load up
GPRS settings for ALL major UK networks pre installed, and was unlocked GSM
Speed of user interface is improved upon previous Motorola 2G phones
Menu options are very comprehensive. Functionality is top-notch for a 2.5G phone.
Bluetooth 1.2 Stereo music support
Bluetooth Printing support of camera pics direct from phone
Vertical viewing angles of screen are very wide!
Firmware updating can be done via USB!
Shortcuts on front screen can be created to induvidual JAVA applications such as the music player giving one-touch access to any app.
MP3 player functionality can be updated by downloading new JAVA application from Motorola (but no such update is currently available).
Menus have good theme support and there is a wide range of inbuilt skins
Camera saves pictures very quickly
Java applications can be used while MP3 player is turned on!
The bad
Camera sharpness is lacking - fixed focus and colours have a very hazy appearance.
No 3D graphics chip and JPEG rendering in very poor - does not make full use of the excellent screen when it comes to colours. Camera pics cannot be fully appriciated on phone.
There are a couple of glaring obmissions from the box: Despite memory stick slot and MP3 player - NO STEREO HEADPHONES!! (However pop-port is available on eBay for £4.99 inc delivery). Secondly there is no corner piece adapter for the charger or future USB > 3.5mm jack convertor, so any connecting cable sticks out at a bad angle.
The user interface is comprehensive but showing its age
The picture viewer does now allow images larger than 400k to be viewed.
Phonebook is too slow to navigate when there are many contacts
There is no equaliser function in the MP3 player.
Blue back lighted Motorola M logo is a little on the tacky side
Keypad is too stiff and flat, Web Browser shortcut can easily be pressed accidentally
Screen backlight timeout cannot be longer than 20 seconds
Grooved pattern on alluminium casing picks up dirt easily in the grooves
The bugs
The short cut icons on the main screen once left justified can never be centred again, despite the menu option for centred icons being reselected.
