Sony Ericsson boosted market share in the fourth quarter. Rising from 5.4 percent to six percent in the second quarter. The reason for this was the high sale of the low en model T100.
"We sold significant amounts of the T100 worldwide, with shipments jumping 42 percent in the fourth quarter from the third quarter," Kazuo Nakai, Sony Ericsson's corporate vice president and head of Asia Pacific, told Reuters in an interview.
Nakai said sales of Sony Ericsson's flagship high-end model, the P800, which features an in-built camera and computer with a large colour screen, also contributed to its market share gain in the December quarter.
"The market can't seem to get enough of this product. In Singapore, the first batch was sold out in one day, while during presales through the Internet in Taiwan, the models were gone in two hours," Nakai said, brushing aside suggestions that the P800 had suffered delays in its full-scale rollout in late 2002
