In order to use the Wayfinder application, you will need an internet/data subscription from your network service provider (GPRS or 3G/UMTS) and an internet access point configured in your mobile device. You will connect to the Wayfinder server using the internet, hence WAP or WAP-GPRS is not sufficient.
Please note that, even if you use downloaded maps, you still need to be permanently connected to the internet, for the route calculation, the points of interests etc.
So you can not use Wayfinder without GPRS or 3G connection.
